CATO Carbon Reduction Game

Dive into industrial CO2 reduction! In this game, teams act as energy sector and industry companies, participating in CO2 certificate auctions and government policies.
The challenge
Balancing emission trading with investments in renewable energy, energy efficiency, and CO2 reduction technologies. Place capture units, wind turbines, and pipelines on the game board. Trade CO2 certificates and collaborate on projects with other teams while navigating through uncertain times.
Practicalities
- 20-40 players in teams of 4-6 persons.
- Duration: 2½ - 3 hours.
- 100 m² space for gathering around the game board and interaction between teams.
- 1-2 large tables for the bankers.
- A table for each team, serving as their headquarters.
- 1 laptop per team for using a website tool for auctions.
- 1 experienced game master provided by CATO for initial game(s).
- 1 or 2 voluntaries who operate the bank. Can be instructed on location.
- A small price for the financial and environmental winners.
