News overview
In memoriam Jan Brouwer28 July 2021On 28 July 2021 we received the sad news that our dear colleague Jan Brouwer passed away after an illness of five years at the age of 62. Despite his condition Jan continued working at TNO, the last years on a part-time basis. Jan became the program director of CATO, the national research program on CO2 capture, transport and storage. CATO has been an example of a successful, multidisciplinary integrated research program, and has provided the knowledge base for the current developments on CCS in the Netherlands. When Jan became ill, he had the possibility to stop working, but he accepted the challenge to set-up the Rijswijk Center for Sustainable Geo-Energy. This center is currently operational and its unique facilities are being used in a large number of geo-energy projects, including CCUS.
Jan was a very respected colleague, inspirer, mentor and friend for many of us. We will remember his wisdom, warmth, creativity, sense of humor and more.
We could clearly see how important his family was to Jan. Our thoughts are with his wife Lies, their children and grandchildren.
The ceremony has taken place in private.
Jan Hopman, Director CATO
