Schlumberger

Schlumberger Limited is the world's leading supplier of technology, integrated project management and information solutions to customers working in the oil and gas industry worldwide. Employing approximately 79,000 people representing over 140 nationalities and working in more than 80 countries, Schlumberger provides the industry's widest range of products and services from exploration through production.

Schlumberger Carbon Services (SCS), a division of Schlumberger Limited, provides comprehensive geological storage solutions for CO2, consistent with care for health, safety, and the environment. Technical expertise, project management and technology are leveraged from more than 80 years of proven subsurface evaluation experience in the oil & gas industry. SCS brings together the resources, technologies, and expertise of Schlumberger to manage all phases of full-scale carbon storage projects: Site Assessment, Detailed Site Characterization, Site Design and Construction, Repository Monitoring and Site Decommissioning. In particular, it includes control of the CO2 containment and integrity, avoiding fracturing of caprock, reactivation of faults, and leakage, and monitoring for leak detection.
Schlumberger has directed R&D efforts toward gas storage, and in particular CO2, and provided characterization and monitoring for geological repositories since the mid 1990s. Since 2007 a dedicated R&D group develops specific technology for CO2 storage, including technologies such as formation characterization and monitoring measurements, advanced modeling capabilities and new well construction materials.

SCS is playing an active part in finding solutions to global CO2 issues. We're a stakeholder in the international Carbon Leadership Forum and an active member of the IEA-GHG Programme and the European Technology Platform on Zero Emission Fossil Fuel Power Plans (ZEP). Our involvement extends to national and international programs such as the Regional Partnerships in the USA and the Otway Basin Pilot Project, led by the CO2CRC in Australia, and we're increasing our knowledge and experience by participating in most European storage projects.
